Our Director of Instruction, John Yacobellis, is a veteran teacher of golf and a master at revitalizing a wide variety of golf games. You won't find any gimmicks or fleeting fixes in his instruction. But you will enjoy the often-amazing results of his unique teaching style that can measurably enhance your success as a golfer.
A former university coach and teacher, John is well-known for his ability to bring out the best in his students. Young and old, beginners and seasoned players, all have experienced a personal golfing renaissance under John's expert guidance.
Prior to his appointment at Oakmont, John founded the Tucson Golf Academy in Arizona and The Sea Ranch School of Golf on the North Coast. He was also director of instruction at Lakewood Country Club in Denver. His administrative roles have included director of golf at Angel Fire Resort in New Mexico and general manager at Lake Padden GC in Bellingham, Washington.
John employs the V-1 Professional computerized video system in his teaching. In addition to digital enhancements such as split-screen comparisons, the program features a library of more than 300 touring pro swings. John's students benefit from a video-clip of their lesson that is sent to their own webpage on the Oakmont Golf Club website. The video features some of their swing sequences with a voice-over by John and serves as an excellent review of their session.
